According to the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Britain would continue to help Ukraine despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s resignation. Johnson was thanked for protecting Ukraine’s interests during Russian aggression.
“With grief, we all learned about Johnson’s resignation. After the two leaders spoke on the phone, a statement from Zelenskyy’s office said, “Not only me but also the whole Ukrainian society, which is very sensitive to you.”
“We are confident that Great Britain will continue to back us, but your individual charm and leadership made it exceptional,”
Russian envoy: Johnson’s downfall is payback for “belligerent” Ukraine policies. The Russian ambassador to Britain claimed that Boris Johnson’s downfall was due to his “belligerent” anti-Russian strategy of backing Ukraine but omitting the country’s economic needs.
In an interview with Reuters in London, Andrei Kelin, the Russian ambassador to Britain, said: “He dwelt too much on the geopolitical issue, on Ukraine.”
According to Kelin, “He left without very much the country, the people, and the situation of the market, and this is what brought about this outcome.” Of course, we’d prefer someone who wasn’t so hostile or combative.
The UN reports that the Russian military campaign in Ukraine has resulted in at least 4,889 civilian deaths, including 335 children, and that almost 9 million people have abandoned the nation in search of safety, creating what is being called the biggest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
