According to police reports, nineteen people have been killed in two seemingly random shootings at South African taverns within hours of each other.
According to police, gunmen armed with assault rifles and long guns began firing in the Orlando East pub in the Soweto municipality early Sunday, killing 15 people and injuring nine others.
A second seemingly random shooting took place hours earlier, at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in a tavern in Pietermaritzburg, 500 kilometers southeast of Soweto. Four people were killed and eight were injured.
According to authorities, the two incidents were unconnected. According to police, it is unknown how many assailants were implicated in either shooting, and the perpetrators of both attacks are presently on the run.
