Former British finance minister Rishi Sunak announced on Friday that he was running to replace Boris Johnson, who announced the previous day that he would step down as Prime Minister.
“Someone must seize this instant and make the correct decisions.”
That’s why I’m running for Conservative Party leader and prime minister,” Sunak said in a candidacy video released on Twitter.
“The choices we make today will determine whether the next cohort of British people has a better future.
Do we face this moment with honesty, severity, and determination, or do we tell ourselves reassuring fairy tales that may make us feel better now, but will end up leaving our children worse off tomorrow?”
