India has successfully in-flight tested the locally developed ABHYAS high-speed single-use air target from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. During the test flight, the aircraft’s low-altitude performance, including sustained altitude and high maneuverability, was demonstrated.
Several tracking sensors, including radar and an electro-optical targeting system, were deployed by ITR to track the target aircraft as it was flown by a ground-based controller on a predetermined low-altitude course. The Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defense Research and Development Organization created and developed ABHYAS (DRDO).
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the Armed Forces on the successful flight test of ABHYAS. He said that the development of this system will meet the needs of air targets.
DRDO President G. Satheesh Reddy commended the efforts of the teams involved in the design, development, and testing of the system.
