After she received a commercial pilot’s license from the Allahabad Flying Club in 1947, several airlines turned her down for a pilot’s job. Being a pilot was unusual and risky at the time, but her relentless pursuit earned her her first job as a co-pilot at Deccan Airlines, Hyderabad at the age of 38. She flew with some famous people of his time like Indira Gandhi and Lady Mountbatten. She also competed in the National Air Race in Kolkata and flew for a hundred hours, beating other experienced male instructors.She also served as a private jet pilot for the Birla family. In 1953 she transferred to Air India and spent her remaining flying years there. This also made India the first country in the world to employ a female pilot in the International Air Transport Association (IATA Airline Ltd.)
