Guwahati Child Abuse Case: Prime suspect detained across a border in Meghalaya

Introduction:

Every human being, especially children, has some fundamental liberties that have been provided by  nature. These essential rights were endowed upon humans at creation. Since they are still foetuses,  humans have rights.

The beginning is the foetus in the mother’s womb since from that time, a person is  granted a set of fundamental rights. All people are born with these rights. These rights are intrinsic, and  the state cannot grant or abolish them. These rights must be acknowledged and protected by the state.

Children’s rights-specific human rights instruments: The first international document addressing  children’s rights was the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1924), which was adopted by the League  of Nations’ fifth legislature.

Any action that damages a kid, in this instance anyone under the age of 18, is considered child abuse.  It can occur in various ways, including neglect, exploitation, and sexual, emotional, and physical abuse.  The law prohibits the mistreatment of children. Millions of children worldwide suffer from exploitation,  abuse, and discrimination.

Assam Police on May 6 caught up with Guwahati-based doctor Sangeeta Dutta from the Meghalaya  boundary concerning the case of 4- age-old child abuse.

Psychiatrist Dr. Sangeeta along with her hubby Dr. Waliul Islam was demanded of abusing their  espoused minor daughter. Meanwhile, Dr. Sangeeta was on the run and concealment in a house at  Umsning in Meghalaya’s Ribhoi.

Even so, the police were qualified to track her down and brought her  to the Paltam Bazar police station at night. Walliul Islam, a gastrointestinal and developed general  surgeon, was held from his home in the Manipuri Basti position of Guwahati. Dr. Waliul is being held  by the police for five days concerning the case.

The police station concerned listed under sections of the Indian Penal Code communed to attempting to murder (307), willingly causing grievous hurt (325), unlawful restraint (341), etc.

Diganta Barah, the Commissioner of Police (CP) for Guwahati, stated, “The young child was detained  on the fourth floor of the doctor couple’s home in Roma Enclave. The 4-year-old kid had bruises on  various regions of her body, as well as burn and damage scars on her private area. Additionally planned  was the burning of her private area with cigarettes during the medical examination.

All three criminated, including their caretaker Lakshmi Rai, who was also reportedly interwoven in the  affair, have been arrested. They were produced before the chief judicial justice’s court in Guwahati on  Sunday after which the court transferred the couple to five-day police custody and the maid, Lakshmi  Rai, to seven-day judicial custody. The couple has been reserved under the Protection of Children from  Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” he said.

A child protection activist from the north-eastern state of Assam named Miguel Das Queah assisted the  minor in obtaining every sort of assistance after being released from the custody of the accused medical  couple.

On Friday, a tragic incident occurred when an FIR was filed against Dr. Waliul Islam and his wife, Dr.  Sangeeta Dutta, who was accused of child abuse. According to rumours, both prominent doctors abused  their minor daughter for a long time.

The two reportedly continuously handcuffed the child to a pole on  the highest point of the house while it was burning warm as punishment. Interestingly, the couple  initially declared that they had adopted the child, but then clarified that they were the parents and that  the process of IVF had been used to conceive the child. While Dr. Sangeeta Dutta was taken into custody  on May 6, 2023, Drs. Waliul Islam and their carer were also detained on Saturday.

Police arrested the  husband and wife as they performed additional questioning. There has been no official proof as of yet,  but sources claim that “the Doc Couple Sangeeta Dutta and Walliul Islam broke the law on adoption  and allegedly used them as sex toys.”

Conclusion:

Regardless of any distinctions, every child should be treated fairly, equitably, and with the utmost  dignity. No matter what ethnic group, color, caste, religion, language, ethnicity, or gender they belong  to, they are entitled to all basic liberties.

Any crimes performed against children must be criticized by the nation, the government, and the citizens  of the nation as well. The future of the nation will only be in safe hands if the suffering of children  within the country can be put an end to and they are provided with a healthy, happy, and safe  environment that nurtures them mentally, physically, and emotionally.
