Swapnil Shankhwar, a 27-year-old academician and researcher, has carved a niche for himself in the field of international law, migration, and refugee studies. Currently pursuing his PhD at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, his research focuses on the Bangladesh-India migration issue and the need for a normative framework for mobility laws. His fieldwork at the Refugee and Migratory Movement Research Unit (RMMRU) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, demonstrates his dedication to resolving cross-border migration challenges.

Swapnil’s academic journey includes an LL.M. from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and a B.A.LL.B. from Aligarh Muslim University. His dissertation on the Bangladesh-India migration crisis reflects his empirical research in key districts of West Bengal, providing critical insights into migration dynamics.

With a UGC NET qualification and recognition as an NFSC fellow, Swapnil has excelled in academics and fieldwork. His internships with organizations like the International Justice Mission and Chhattisgarh State Legal Service Authority enriched his expertise in anti-human trafficking initiatives, victim compensation schemes, and legal aid services. His tenure with esteemed advocates, such as Sunil Kumar Verma, involved research on asylum cases and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

An accomplished researcher, Swapnil has presented papers on topics like minority rights, surrogacy, and intellectual property. His contributions to journals and edited books further highlight his scholarly achievements. Additionally, as an editor and zonal head for various legal research platforms, he has demonstrated his commitment to academia.
