In the recent case of Gulam Rasool v. State of Karnataka, which concerns the 4% Muslim reservation in Karnataka, he appeared before the Supreme Court on behalf of petitioner Gulam Rasool. - His appointment as the new A-G:
Senior Advocate K Shashi Kiran Shetty has been appointed as the new Advocate General of Karnataka. K Shashi Kiran Shetty was appointed as the new Advocate General of the state shortly after Siddaramaiah took office as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, succeeding Prabhuling K Navadgi who served in that capacity under the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration.
At the moment, Shashi Kiran holds the position of managing director at renowned Bengaluru-based law firm Shetty and Hegde Associates.
The newly appointed advocate general thanked the government for placing its trust in him and stated that his top objective will be to lower the pendency of litigation before the Karnataka high court, Supreme Court, and other courts in the state as far as government litigation is concerned.
This, in Shetty’s opinion, can be accomplished by bolstering the legal department and legal officers, determining how many cases that are now pending in different courts are covered by the high court and the Supreme Court, and urging the courts in question to conclude any proceedings that are covered by judgments.
The priority list would also include keeping the state government out of needless lawsuits, he added.

According to Shetty, the emphasis would be placed on resolving conflicts through Lok Adalat, arbitration, and mediation in which the state or governmental entities are involved. Additionally, efforts will be made to strengthen young bar members by enlisting their assistance in cases involving governmental entities.
A particular focus will be placed on interacting with the government and helping the high court build the infrastructure needed for the swift and effective resolution of legal disputes, he added.
According to reports, Mr. Shetty stated that one of his goals as Advocate-General will be to prevent pointless litigation. Hence, he was appointed as the new Advocate General of Karnataka.
